The Statue Of Liberty, New Yorks gate Of Freedom

The Statue of Liberty, an Entrance through Freedoms Gate.

The Statue of Liberty a sculpture constructed out of sheets of copper and attached to a frame of iron. The sculpture is 151 Feet tall. The Statue is taller than 12 Elephants stacked on top of each other. The Statue of Liberty weighs in at a staggering 225 tons. This is an amazing amount of weight. At current market value the copper would be worth 1.4 Billion dollars. And every year as the price of copper goes up so does the value of the Statue. The Statue of liberty was built in July 1886. This time period was a very unique time in American history.

Emigrants from all nations and people of every nationality began their journey to be free in America. Seeking the United States rich and prosperous lifestyles the Statue of Liberty was the first thing an Emigrant saw when coming to America. Located on the island of Ellis Island the Statue graces the harbor. The Statue of Liberty was sculptured by a famous French sculpture artist named Bertholdi. Bertholdi was commissioned by the French government to sculpture the Statue of Liberty as a gift from France to America. Bertholdi used a picture of his mother to fashion a likeness of her for the Statue. The statue has a crown with 7 points representing the seven continents and seven seas. Bertholdi spent an amazing 16 years to construct the Statue of Liberty.

If you had to make a pair of shoes for the Statue of Liberty it would require you to make them in size 186. Can you imagine staking a size 12 shoe end to end 186 times? That would be what it would take to provide shoes for Misses Liberty. Misses Liberty’s index finger is 4 feet long and her nose is a whopping 4 1/2 feet also. In World War 1 the Allied Bombers thought that the Statue of Liberty was a target and proceeded to destroy the Statues Arm and Torch. The arm was reconstructed and fitted with a real gold torch. There are 345 steps to walk if you want to go up inside the Statue. There are now elevators to allow access to the Statues top structure. The Statue has been rebuilt and repaired many times. The most recent repairs took several years to repair corrosion and damage from the elements. In the New York Bay the salt and corrosion causes the Statue to appear as if it is green in color. The oxidation and corrosion causes this unique color.
